LSU Sports Information
The LSU softball team plays host to the first of two fall tournaments this weekend at Tiger Park. Admission is free all weekend.
The Tigers take on Louisiana College and Louisiana-Monroe Saturday before matching up Sunday with LSU-Eunice and Southeastern Louisiana.
“We’re always excited to play at any time,” head coach Yvette Girouard said. “These games in the fall present the opportunity to utilize different lineups, try players at secondary positions and get a better feel in competitive situations for our team. It also allows catchers and pitchers to call the game. The fall is never about just winning games, it’s about experimentation and learning.”
LSU tallied a 34-18-1 record during the 2009 season and made its 11th NCAA Regional appearance since softball was reinstated in 1997. The Tigers are sixth nationally and have racked up an impressive 441-137-1 record since Girouard took over the program prior to the 2001 season.
ESPN.com’s Patrick Carney took time to write about freshman pitcher Rachele Fico’s transition from high school to college. The story also contains a video element on Fico through ESPNU’s Campus Connection.
